If you've ever been a fan of Blondie, you will definitely enjoy The Curse Of Blondie. So, if you've ever been a fan of Blondie what you need to do right now is:
I'm still trying to figure out the point of the Hard Rock Rap of Shakedown that leads off the album, but as soon as the bouncy dance beat of the second track, the top 10 Dance hit Good Boys, kicks in, we're off. Most of the songs here are well worth hearing. If the world needed any proof that we need more songs written by keyboard player Jimmy Destri, Rules For Living, Background Melody, and Last One In the World provide it in abundance. The Tingler's 'makin' me itch, makin' me twitch' demonstrates that the 3 decade collaboration between Debbie Harry and guitarist Chris Stein can still raise a smile in the listener. While the band is in great form here, additional credit for The Curse Of Blondie's success must be given to veteran producers Steve Thompson and Craig Leon, producer of the first Blondie album, their late 90's comeback No Exit and many of the Ramones' early Punk classics. Their work behind the boards helps maintain a crisp, classic sound as Blondie delivers their usual stylistic eclecticism from Reggae to Rock to Disco and even an Okinawan Folk song. The music world has changed in many significant ways since Blondie's ascent in the late 70's on the heels of Parallel Lines and its smash Heart Of Glass, but Blondie's approach to creating entertaining, catchy recordings has changed very little. I am thankful for that. |
